60th Anniversary of Dunchideock WI - 26 June 2007
The celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Dunchideock WI took place at the Haldon Belvedere Tower on Tuesday 26 June 2007. This photo shows the Dunchideock WI President, Rosie Gillett, standing beside Jean Bray (Ashton & Trusham WI President
and past Dunchideock resident) as Jean cuts the Anniversary Cake. A beautiful Photograph Album of the occasion was given as a gift to the WI by Caroline Pike-Eaton and is available to be seen at the WI meetings. The first photo below shows an extract from Rosie's speech about the competitions held over the past 60 years - it includes a sentence about Daphne Absalom's prize winning 'Lady Leek', photograph shown below.
(A copy of the whole speech is in the album)

Prize Winning Owl Scarecrow
The two photographs below show the Dunchideock WI's prize winning owl scarecrow - this original idea and finished masterpiece made from recycled materials (silver bottle tops. 2 CDs and found bird feathers) was by Rosie Gillett.
The owl scarecrow was used in Rosie's garden and it successfully scared the birds away (latest news is that it's still there! Sept 2011). The second photo below shows the owl scarecrow displayed with other local WI scarecrows that were entered in the Belvedere Group competition.
The 75th Anniversary of Devon County WI was celebrated in May 1995 by the local WIs finding different ways of passing the WI Banner on to each WI in Devon. Below are photos of Dunchideock WI setting off with Jenny Tuckett's shire horse for handing the Banner on to Ashton WI. Margaret Barr was President at the time and is shown holding the Banner in the first photo. Click on photos to enlarge them.
