News Report November 2015
Before our monthly meeting on 10th November we held an EGM at 7.00 pm.
Sadly by majority vote our WI was Suspended - one month before its 68th birthday!
We had not attracted enough support from our village and the surrounding area so as to give us enough new members to make the financial running of our WI viable, to enable us to continue to arrange 10 good Speakers for the coming year, a garden meeting in July, and opportunities to attend the many varied events put on by the County Federation Subcommittees.
This is a great shame, as our many activities over the years have provided so much interest, enjoyment, and opportunities for our members.
However, the great, caring, friendship amongst us all, which is the trademark of a WI, will carry on. Some of us will remain WI members by joining neighbouring village WIs.
On 8th December, we shall all meet up for a Christmas Lunch at The Manor, and then come back to our Village Hall for afternoon tea and a celebratory review of all the WI social history records and memorabilia of the past 68 years. Our happy memories of all that we achieved will be revisited and shared, and the great contributions of past members remembered. The historical important records will be stored in our WI cupboard in the Village Hall.
The funds of our Suspended WI will be held in a special account by the County Federation so that if a new WI arises in Dunchideock within the next three years, the funds can then be released for use by the new WI. If no WI starts up in that time then the funds remain in the “Suspended Institutes Account” and will be used to help cover the costs of starting up other new WIs in Devon.
